Skilling by Wadhwani Foundation

In the Skilling program, we work  with employers and partners across the skilling ecosystem to develop and provide highly interactive, engaging, and practice-based eLearning courses on a Learning Management System (LMS) / Platform covering:

  1. In-demand Employability Skills wherein 120 hours of foundational skills enable students with core skills applicable across sectors for new-age jobs. These include Communication, Digital Literacy, Creative Thinking and Problem solving, Customer Service, Self-management, Interviewing Skills, Shine at Work, etc.
  2. Business employability skills: This covers the employability skills required for chosen aspirational domain
  3. Job Role skills: Modules for specialized jobs across sectors like healthcare, retail etc.

The unique pedagogy is driven by experiential learning model and ensures modular learning-by-doing with a 5-step methodology

  1. Watch – View a short video explaining the key concepts
  2. Think – Check understanding by answering a few select scenario-based questions
  3. Do – Play a simulation game using this knowledge
  4. Collaborate – Group based role-play or activities, applying the skills in real-life
  5. Explore – Read additional, highly relevant resources online

These courses are delivered in a hybrid (part self-learning online along with group sessions to practice what they learned as well ensure progress across cohorts) by partners as well as in a direct-to-student model. SDN Trust in partnership with Wadhwani Foundation works with different channel partners – Employers (for upskilling employees or skilling trainees/apprentices), Vocational Training Providers, Schools, Academic Institutions/Colleges, etc. and develops and enables faculty to effectively deliver these courses.

SDN offers the digital content in chosen languages, training platform, analytics capability and train the trainer program as offerings to enable the skilling ecosystem.

Wadhwani Center for Government Digital Transformation

New and Emerging Technologies, like AI, data analytics, machine learning, blockchain etc. are playing a transformative role in peoples’ lives. Governments that learn to effectively harness such technologies can have a dramatic impact in improving the delivery of public services, strengthening governance, and making better-informed decisions. However, to maximize the utility of such technologies, policymakers must develop an executive-level understanding of the technology’s potential and possess the ability to build frameworks critical in executing related initiatives. Many Central and State Govt officers lack adequate knowledge of emerging technologies and their impact on policy making, execution and outcomes measurement, which in turn affects policies, execution, and measurement of outcomes.

SDN through our Wadhwani Center for Government Digital Transformation program fills this gap by undertaking the following activities towards empowering Civil Services Officers and other senior policymakers with knowledge of emerging technologies that enable them to improve policymaking, program execution and outcome measurement.

  • A Technology-focused Training Academy for upskilling policymakers in important technology trends and in the application of relevant technologies to their respective ministries and missions.
  • A strategic project unit which helps government agencies in the conceptualization of pilot projects using emerging technologies for wider impact.
  • A Policy Think-tank that focuses on providing information, insights, and recommendations for the application of technology for policymaking, policy implementation and policy outcomes measurement

The benefit of these programs targeting different levels of bureaucracy are:

  • Better Policies: Improvement of current policies, and new policies being made more effective by integrating technology knowledge that impacts policy design, execution, and measurement.
  • More Technology-aware Policy Makers: Policymakers become much more knowledgeable about current and emerging technologies and how best to apply them to their Ministries and Missions.
  • Technology-enabled Policy Execution at Scale: WITP helps define technology platforms that enable policy execution at scale, leveraging common architectures and technology components across different programs.
  • Technology-enabled Outcomes Measurement: Policies often fail because of the failure to define or measure outcomes effectively; technology platforms help address this deficiency.
  • Better Policy Insights in near Real-time enabling Faster Course Correction: Technology provides near real-time visibility, analytics, and insights into policy performance, thereby enabling fast course correction, improvement and success.

SDN has partnered with Wadhwani Foundation to bring this program to the beneficiaries in India.
